Village Beneficiaries Education and Development Society

Our work is vital for empowering marginalized communities, improving lives through education, healthcare, and economic sustainability, and fostering overall social development.

Founded in 1990 under the Societies Act XXI of 1860 in Karaikal. Founded by Mrs. V. Buvaneswary, the organization was created with a vision to uplift the marginalized and underserved communities by promoting equality, social justice, and empowerment. VBEDS serves communities without discrimination of caste, color, creed, or religion, working towards the holistic development of individuals and society. Its mission is to empower the poor, downtrodden, and marginalized groups through education, economic empowerment, social awareness, and political enlightenment. VBEDS has implemented various initiatives, including child education, women's empowerment through self-help groups, health programs targeting HIV/AIDS and other diseases, and disaster rehabilitation, among others. ISSUING TRANSGENDER ID CARD TO TRANSGENDER COMMUNITY

n November 2024, the District Collector of Karaikal, Dr. D. Manikandan, distributed identity cards to transgender individuals residing in the district. This initiative was organized by the Social Welfare Department and took place at the District Collectorate. The event was attended by the department's Assistant Director, Mr. Rajendran, among others. DINAMANI.COM The Village Beneficiaries Education and Development Society (VBEDS), established in 1990 in Karaikal, focuses on uplifting marginalized communities through various initiatives, including women's empowerment and health programs. While VBEDS is active in social welfare, there is no specific information indicating their direct involvement in the issuance of transgender ID cards in Karaikal.

Skill Development Training

Our NGO has made notable progress in empowering marginalized groups, especially female sex workers, through skill development programs focused on improving their livelihoods and social inclusion. By providing training in various marketable skills, the program enabled 100 women to reduce their reliance on high-risk activities and pursue economic independence. The immediate results showed increased confidence, with many participants showing interest in alternative livelihoods and starting small income-generating ventures. The initiative also enhanced awareness around health, rights, and well-being. Additionally, We organized a rally and speech event to raise awareness about violence against women, bringing together community members, activists, and leaders to advocate for change. The event emphasized the need for collective action to prevent violence and create a safer society for women. These efforts reflect our ongoing dedication to supporting women’s rights and safety while fostering positive social change.

Empowering Communities

Our NGO, has successfully formed 50 Self-Help Groups (SHGs) for women and 21 SHGs for farmers in the Kottucherry, Nedungadu, T.R.Pattinam communes, and Karaikal Municipality, aiming to empower these communities through collective efforts. Additionally, cluster-level training sessions were organized for 125 SHGs, with over 2,500 participants attending. These training programs focused on enhancing the skills and knowledge of the members, covering areas such as financial management, entrepreneurship, and agricultural practices. The sessions provided valuable insights, enabling participants to improve their livelihoods and create more sustainable income-generating opportunities. This initiative has fostered a sense of community, self-reliance, and empowerment among the groups. We remains committed to supporting these communities in their continued growth and development.

HIV TESTING CAMPAIGN

VBEDS successfully conducted an HIV testing campaign at Anna College, Karaikal, with the objective of raising awareness about HIV/AIDS, promoting early detection, and encouraging responsible health practices among students and faculty members. The objectives of the camp is to provide free and confidential HIV testing. To educate students on HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment. To dispel myths and misconceptions surrounding HIV/AIDS. Awareness Session: Experts from the health sector delivered informative talks on HIV transmission, prevention, and the importance of regular testing. Counseling Services: Professional counselors provided pre- and post-test counseling to participants, ensuring they understood the testing process and its implications. HIV Testing: A mobile testing unit was set up on campus where voluntary and confidential testing was conducted. Distribution of IEC Materials: Pamphlets, brochures, and awareness posters were distributed to reinforce key messages about HIV/AIDS.

Skill Development and Advocacy for Social Protection and Rights

With the support of the Pondicherry AIDS Control Society and the Social Welfare Department of Karaikal, we facilitated the distribution of TG (Transgender) welfare cards to 24 TG individuals in the Karaikal region. The cards were officially handed over by the Puducherry Transport Minister, Karaikal District Collector, and Senior Superintendent of Police at the Collectorate Chamber. In addition, 5 TG individuals were assisted in applying for the Pension Scheme through the same support network. We also helped 14 high-risk group (HRG) individuals who lacked ration cards to obtain them, and 5 others had their yellow ration cards upgraded to red ration cards, with the cooperation of the Civil Supply and Consumer Affairs Department of Karaikal. These efforts aim to enhance the welfare and rights of marginalized communities in the region.

Protection of Women in the Internet

We conducted seminar on "Protection of Women in the Internet" addressed the growing risks women face online, such as cyberbullying, harassment, and exploitation. Experts highlighted the importance of digital literacy, encouraging women to participate in workshops and online courses to strengthen their knowledge and self-defense against cyber threats. The event emphasized the need for a safe space where women can report online abuse without fear of retaliation or shame. The seminar concluded with a call for stricter law enforcement, better technological tools, and global awareness initiatives to protect women in digital spaces. Attendees gained a deeper understanding of the challenges women face online and the necessary actions to prevent online violence. This initiative reinforced the commitment to creating a safer internet environment for women worldwide.

COVID_19 Support Program

During the COVID-19 pandemic, our TI staff and volunteers played a vital role in supporting the community by responding to emergency needs. A dedicated team of 25 staff members and volunteers were involved in various activities such as educating the public on preventive measures, screening suspected cases, and offering services at quarantine centers and check posts. At the Karaikal district check post borders, staff worked tirelessly to monitor temperatures using thermal scanners and provide awareness about COVID-19 to those traveling. In quarantine centers, our volunteers offered counseling, ensured proper hygiene, monitored nutrition, and facilitated referrals for testing. A 24-hour helpline was also established to assist women and the elderly, and essential supplies like rice, vegetables, and masks were distributed to vulnerable groups, including PLHIV and high-risk populations. These efforts were crucial in ensuring health and safety during a challenging period.

VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN (NO MORE EXCUSE PROGRAM)

The "No More Excuse" program, organized by VBEDS NGO, aimed to address and combat violence against women through awareness campaigns, community engagement, and support services. The program was implemented in multiple regions with a focus on education, legal assistance, and psychological support for survivors. To raise awareness about violence against women and its impact on individuals and society. The Objectives of the program is to provide legal and psychological support to survivors. To engage communities in discussions on gender-based violence. To advocate for policy changes and better implementation of protective laws.
